Engineering Doctorate Programme By Research | | | The Engineering Doctorate (EngD) is a doctoral level programme combining academic research and scholarship with industrial problem-solving and project management. The programme incorporates the industrial relevant research, team leadership and unique university-industry partnership. The academic degree awarded on the basis of advanced study and research in engineering is equivalent to a PhD degree in engineering/applied sciences. The innovative research output from the programme is expected to be immediately useful to the participating company. The Engineering Doctorate programme offers an opportunity for outstanding engineers to enhance their qualification through a mix of broadly based technical and professional training while completing an industry based research project. Successful researchers after completing the programme not only graduate with a title Doctor of Engineering, but also with the important mix of professional skills, technical knowledge and research experience that will enable them to progress to senior positions within industry at an acceleration rate. | | | | Participating Faculties | Doctor of Engineering (Electronic and Computer Engineering) Doctor of Engineering (Electrical Engineering) Doctor of Engineering (Mechanical Engineering) - Doctor of Engineering (Manufacturing Engineering)
| Mode of Registration | Full Time | | 2-5 | | | | Entry Requirements - A Master degree from UTeM, or
- A Master degree from any institution of higher learning recognized by the UTeM Senate, or
- Other equivalent Master degrees and relevant experience recognized by the UTeM Senate.
- Bachelor degree with good honours in the relevant discipline or equivalent recognized by the UTeM Senate with minimum of 10 years working experience.
| | | Programme Structure Eng.D programme consists of two components, i.e. taught course and research. |
| | Particular | Taught Course | - modules are designed to enhance candidates’ knowledge in Engineering Business Management | Research | - Based on real industrial problems | | | | Taught Course: Candidates in this programme can choose any of the following schedule: | | i) Candidates with Master Degree |
 | | | ii) Candidates with First Degree |
 | | | Course work subjects: First degree candidates are required to take 30 credit hours of master level subjects and candidates with master degree are required to take minimum 18 credit hours. Indicative subjects are given in the following table: |
University Compulsory Subjects (15 credit hours) | Faculty Compulsory Subjects (15 credit hours ) | Research | PPSW 6013 Research Methodology PPSW 6023 Entrepreneurship PPSW 6033 Engineering and Technology Management PPSW 6053 Quality Systems Management PPSW 6073 Project Management | Faculty of Electrical Engineering - 5 master level subjects | - Based on real industrial problems. - Research will be carried out in the industry - Prepare research thesis at the end of study. | Faculty of Electronic & Computer Engineering -5 master level subjects | Faculty of Manufacturing Engineering -5 master level subjects | Faculty of Mechanical Engineering -5 master level subjects | | | | Research: The candidate will be advised by one academic supervisor and one industrial supervisor. The topic for the research will be jointly decided by the faculty and the participating company. It can be a single project, or a series of projects, firmly based on a real industrial problem and having significant challenging and innovative engineering content. The candidate will spend majority of his/her time (about 80%) with the collaborating company. | | | Fees: | | Details | Local(RM) | A | Registration Fee | | Orientation | 110 | Registration | 20 | Alumni | 100 | Student smart card | 50 | Total (A) | 280.00 | B | Service Fee | | Student activities | 140 | Administration | 25 | Total | 165 | Total for 6 semester (B) | 990.00 | C | Tuition Fee | | i) Compulsory subjects (18 credits)(per credit) | 275.00 | Subtotal | 4,950.00 | ii) Research (84 credits)(per credit) | 370.00 | Subtotal | 31,080.00 | Total (C) | 36,030.00 | D | Thesis examination | | i) Examination fee | 1,500.00 | ii) Re-examination fee | 1,500.00 | Total (D) | 1,500.00 | Total (A+B+C+D) | 38,800.00 | Subsequent semester (Extension) Service Fee | 165.00 | | | | Further Information: Centre for Graduate Studies Phone: +606-331 6769/6772/6792/6791 Fax: +606-331 6888 Email:
