DIPLOMA OF MANUFACTURING ENGINEERING
 
Program Outcomes (PO) are "statements that describe what students are expected to know or be able to do by the time of graduation" (ABET Criteria, 2003). To prepare the students for the achievement of PEOs, all the POs as listed in the EAC Manual were adopted. These POs are also derived from the PEOs. It is expected that the graduates of Bachelor of Manufacturing Engineering course will exhibit the following outcomes at the time of graduation. These POs are common for all departments under the Faculty of Manufacturing Engineering.
Graduates from the Diploma of Manufacturing Engineering program must have:

The ability to apply basic knowledge of mathematics, sciences and engineering in their profession.

The ability to scientifically identify, analyze and solve manufacturing engineering problems.
PO 3
The skill of engineering and management which are based on practice and application oriented.
PO 4
The ability to communicate effectively at each level of organization and society.

The ability to apply knowledge professionally and ethically.

The knowledge of entrepreneurship.
PO 7
The ability to function effectively as an individual and in a group.
PO 8
The skill as an effective leader with high integrity.

The knowledge of contemporary issues and life-long learning.

 

Program Educational Objectives (PEO) is specific goals describing expected achievements of graduates in their career and professional life after graduation. Below are the PEO for Manufacturing Engineering Faculty.
 
To produce Technical Assistants who:
         
PEO 1
Have strong understanding of fundamental engineering knowledge.
PEO 2
Are skilled and competent to identify, analyze and solve problem in the manufacturing engineering field.
PEO 3
Are able to communicate and work in teams effectively.
PEO 4
Possess leadership and managerial skills with ethical standard.
PEO 5
Creative and innovative in fulfilling the needs of industry and society.
 
The Diploma was first introduced in 2001. The course stresses on knowledge and skills in processing activities, manufacturing methods and machine usage in producing cost-effective products that fulfill customers' requirements. Graduates of this program can build their career as Manufacturing Technical Assistant, Technical Specialist or entrepreneur. Graduates can also further their study in Bachelor degree Program.

 

This diploma programme produces graduate capable of exploiting current and future technologies to produce competitive and innovative products.

 

What will I study?

You will follow the diploma curriculum that, including studies in basic sciences and computer-aided drafting with some workshop works. In the following years the lecture programme is common with the basic mechanical engineering and manufacturing processes, with industrial training during semester break. The diploma programme includes a deeper study of manufacturing management, additional specialist subjects and further final year design project.

 

How will I learn?

Teaching is delivered through a combination of techniques including lectures, small group and individual project work, labs, tutorials, computing skills, design assignments, presentations, a teambuilding course and business management tasks that are integrated together throughout the programme. 

 

Special Features

An extensive design project, including studio work, helps to integrate the various engineering skills and to understand the business and social context within which design takes place.

 

What are my career prospects?

This diploma programme has a strong emphasis on developing strengths in problem solving, numeracy, communication and management. These are transferable skills much in demand in a wide variety of occupations. Your choice of career is by no means limited to the manufacturing industry, but that is where your skills will be most immediately relevant and where most graduates obtain employment. Graduates from this programme can also further their study in Bachelor Degree Program either locally or abroad.
