As to date, FKM has 5 departments which are managed by Head of Department. The departments are Thermal-Fluid, Structure & Material, Design & Innovation , Automotive and Diploma. Head of departments are entrusted and responsible to manage and implement the prior planned academic programmes and to develop the related laboratory required for teaching and learning activities.

The core activities of the faculty are based on specialization in respective engineering fields. Lecturers and researchers are trained to be experts in their own research field as well as having wide industrial experiences. In the future, it is expected that most of the academic staffs in each department are fully qualified academically and professionally.
